MAJOR PROPHETIC UPDATE: Push To Create Single, Seven Year Term For U.N. Secretary-General

The next head of the United Nations will be seated in January 2017, only six months away.  The vetting process is already underway as more and more candidates make their desire for office known, including, most recently, Christiana Figueres.  A brand new, public vetting process is now in place and it seems possible that the world is being set up for a certain someone to make his appeal known to the people of the world.

And now this: a powerful international lobby called 1 For 7 Billion is calling for the United Nations to change the Secretary-General position from a five year, once renewable term to a single seven year term.

This push appears to have backing from former Secretary-Generals including Kofi Annan and Javier Perez de Cuellar, as well as former Under-Secretary-General Brian Urquhart.  "The Elders", a group of world leaders including Jimmy Carter and Desmond Tutu, appear to support the initiative as well.  As a side note, it is interesting that there are exactly ten full "global elders" if you don't count the three honorary elders (Revelation 17:12, Daniel 7:24).

Pay careful attention to this.  The initiative points out that this revision could happen with a simple vote in the General Assembly, in which case it would almost surely pass:

The length of term is clearly open to revision. In 1946, the General Assembly, which is assigned the responsibility of appointing the Secretary-General under Article 97 of the UN Charter, assumed its authority to set the term length. The Assembly decided that the term of office for the first Secretary-General should be five years with the possibility of a further term of five years (Resolution 11(1)). However, the resolution also specified that “there being no stipulation on the subject in the Charter, the General Assembly and the Security Council are free to modify the term of office of future Secretaries-General in the light of experience”.

The convention of a term of five years, renewable once, has mostly been observed, but there have been exceptions. Trygve Lie was re-appointed for three, not five years. U Thant was initially appointed for a year as acting Secretary-General, then appointed for a further four years. Kurt Waldheim had support from some Member States when he ran (unsuccessfully) for a third term.

Since 1976, the Security Council has included the term of office in its resolution recommending a candidate for appointment and the General Assembly has invariably reflected the same in its resolutions appointing Secretaries-General. However, it is clear from resolution 11(1) that the Security Council is free to recommend or the General Assembly to decide to change the term to one longer than five years.

The 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly begins this September 13th.  We could likely see this measure brought up for a vote considering the political and international backing it has... and if it passes... well, things get interesting.  A world leader will be selected by October who will be seated in January 2017 for a single seven year term.

He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him. - Daniel 9:27

It is also of particular interest out of all 193 United Nations member states, only three oppose the reform: the United States, Russia, and China - the world's first, second, and third most powerful countries (Daniel 7:8 comes to mind).

This may be nothing, but keep your eyes on this and we'll see what happens.
