The Strange Fire Of The Legalists
Nadab and Abihu were the eldest sons of Aaron; and along with their father, were the first priests to serve in the Tabernacle. Their story is a terrifying warning to us about God’s unbending requirements. In Leviticus 10 we learn that they brought a “strange fire” before the LORD—in other words, a fire not authorized by God. As a consequence, they were immediately consumed and killed by fire.
In like manner, God has authorized only one acceptable sacrifice for us to bring before Him. God’s Word tells us that no one is righteous in His sight (Ps. 53:3; Rm. 3:10–12). All have gone astray and are filled and covered with filthy sins, iniquities, and transgressions (Isa. 64:6). No one can perfectly keep His laws (Jas. 2:10; Gal. 5:3; 1 Cor. 15:56; Rm. 7:10). To remedy this situation, God sent His perfect and only begotten Son to be the once-for-all-time propitiation for our sins (Heb. 10:11–12; 1 Pt. 2:24; Isa. 53:5) that through faith in Him we can be washed in His blood (Eph. 1:7; 1 Jn. 1:7; Rev. 1:5) and clothed in His righteousness (Rm. 3:21–22; 4:22–24; 2 Cor. 5:21). Jesus Christ is the only acceptable sacrifice and everything else is “strange fire.” Your works, religion, and Torah-keeping cannot save you—they’re strange fire. Just as Jeff so incredibly described in his study of Genesis 3–4, Abel was accepted because He brought a blood sacrifice whereas Cain was rejected because he brought the fruit of his labors. They both brought sacrifices, but if you bring the wrong sacrifice it will avail you nothing. Christ is the only acceptable sacrifice for sin. Your works and righteousness are but filthy rags (Isa. 64:6). I greatly fear for those self-proclaimed Christians who are now causing fear in the flock of God by suggesting salvation is Jesus + something else. Woe to them!
You have either placed your faith in Christ and Christ alone or in something else. You either believe Jesus died for all of your sins or none of them. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. There is simply no time left to get onboard the ark and Jesus is the ark. When you carry your works you can’t fit through the door. The only way through the door is to humble yourself before the mighty presence of God and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Don’t assume because you think you’re ready that you’re ready. Only trusting in Christ alone will get you in and I fear many of these works-righteousness teachers are not ready in the way they need to be in order to be raptured—they’re not really even Believers. They don’t believe in Christ, they believe in themselves.
Only one way in - Amen Amen
ReplyDeleteStarted watching video one. He holds up the Bible quoting John 1:1 and says "This is God" about the Bible itself. This concerns me. Jesus said in John 5:38-40 "But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life." Jesus makes a distinction between the Bible and himself. Jesus himself is the Word that was in the beginning with God and the Word that "was God."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I do agree with you about that. I think he should have rephrased that a bit. I get what he's saying though. Jesus is the Word and the Word is God. It's not the paper itself or the binding, but what's behind it all that is God - i.e. Jesus. I think the Pharisees had erred because they thought the Scriptures were a thing unto themselves that could give life and they rejected the very substance of the Scriptures, which is Jesus the John 1:1 Word.
DeleteGary,
ReplyDeleteMany-many thanks for posting these videos, both blessed me greatly! The Lord bless this guy and you richly for sharing it with us! Barry is speaking from my heart!!! Listening to believers like him is really invigorating! The Holy Spirit brought to my attention too that the foolish virgins hadn’t have oil in their lamps from the beginning NOT that they “ran out of it”! The Holy Spirit with Whom we are sealed is our oil and the Lord’s grace through our faith in Him-which is also the Lord’s gift- keeps the Holy Spirit sealed within us! As for my interpretation of the Olivet Discourse parables, I’ve mentioned before (a few times), that I arrived to the conclusion that the foolish virgins are unsaved tribulation people and the wise virgins are saved tribulation people aka tribulation believers in Christ. I think I’m bringing that interpretation in prayer before the Lord asking for the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance if I interpreted the “timing” of these parables correctly or I was wrong. I surely don’t want to lead anyone astray! In case I interpreted the timing of the Olivet Discourse parables wrongly. (I think I’ll also ask the Holy Spirit’s guidance on and clearing of a few significant things about the coming change of dispensation in our -probably near- future.)
Good thoughts, Nora. And whether or nor the parable is about the present Church or the Tribulation Saints, the wise virgins are Believers and the foolish virgins are not. This passage is sola fide all the way.
DeleteTrue, Gary!
DeleteI mean, putting our faith, our trust solely in Jesus, in His redemption for all of our sins is the most important thing! When He said, "Payed in full!" it was payed in full.
Delete(grammar correction: "paid in full")
DeleteI just recently learned sth about the so called 'Hebrew roots movement' which seems really to be a serious threat today.
ReplyDeletehttps://jewsforjesus.org/publications/havurah/havurah-v04-n01/the-jewish-roots-movement-pros-and-cons/
I mean, we learn so much positive things about the feast days of Israel in their prophetic sense regarding now Rev12-sign, but this is way exaggerated. This 'messianic way' of thinking and talking is none other threat as in Pauls time to the Galatians. Read as well Hebrews again... Very important letters to all those who promote e.g. Sabbath-keeping or using the 'real name of God YAHUAH' (or sth alike) to be essential for salvation. Thank you for the good reminder, Gary!
You're welcome! Yes, many in the Hebrew Roots movement are straight up out of Paul's epistles. They are literally going back to the Torah for salvation rather than to Christ. I'm all for studying the Feasts and the Torah because there is so much wisdom contained in them, but salvation is through Jesus who is the only One who actually fulfilled the law.
Delete“They are literally going back to the Torah for salvation rather than to Christ." I’ve heard so that *The Book of Hebrews* was written with such people in mind. If I remember it correctly, I've read that newly born-again Jewish Christians were under persuasion and pressure to go back to the rules of Judaism in their communities and that was the reason Apostle Paul wrote “The Book of Hebrews” to them.
DeleteIf Gentiles were supposed to follow Kosher, then where is the admonition to Gentiles to cease eating pork and octopus? It never occurs in any of Paul's writings.....and, why was Titus not required to be circumcised? The silence of Paul, the ambassador to the Gentiles, on these issues is telling. Paul was tasked to take the Gospel to the Gentiles, and tell us Gentiles what we needed to do to follow the Lord after Justification.......all I have is his letters, and I do not see where he requires Gentiles to follow Kosher or be circumcised for Sanctification
ReplyDeleteBy the way, what Barry is teaching about God's grace and our security in Christ, that is exactly what people with legalistic views love to call "easy grace". To me, that's what raises a *red flag*, when people start to accuse others of believing in and teaching "easy grace".
ReplyDeleteAmen. I also love Jesus' comment in John 6:28-29 in response to this question, "What can we do to perform the works of God? Jesus replies, "This is the work of God: that you believe in the One He has sent."
ReplyDeleteBut, Jesus, what can I do to be accepted before God? C'mon, legalists...
I end up using that Scripture a lot when people bring up "the commandments of Christ".
DeleteYep, the 10 commandments is a tool to show that we are fallen and there is only one that can fix it! (Yeshua is the only way)
DeleteMr. Terry James (of Rapture Ready) wrote a very good article on the same topic in defense of our eternal security and rapture worthiness in Christ.
ReplyDeletehttps://terryjamesprophecyline.com/2017/06/19/conditional-security-and-rapture/
We see legalism rampant today. Anything the enemy can do to distract from Jesus or hinder his church.
ReplyDeleteOne I'm seeing a lot lately is this notion of a partial rapture, where only "overcomers" are in the rapture, but the rest of the bride is left behind. Trying to square that mess of a doctrine with scripture takes quite the effort for those who hold to it.
Barry
Barry,
DeleteYes, the notion of the *partial-rapture*… Since the Church -next to being the Bride of Christ- described and called in Scripture as the Body of Christ, if the partial-rapture happened, that would tear the Body of Christ apart. (Sorry for bringing up such imaginary!)
(*correction: imagery)
DeleteRegarding the strange fire of the legalist...Several have attempted to set me on fire. They have only been successful in breaking my heart because there is always a loss of fellowship and some have even called me a heretic. Jesus Christ is my best friend and I seek Him to pray for them, to comfort me, provide me with the truth and to teach me, to forgive and ask to be forgiven. I am thankful that He never forsakes me. The following scriptures along with my comments work for me when I am being brow beat by their legalism and conflicting doctrine.
ReplyDeleteRomans 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Since God has declared every man a liar I respectfully ask that you keep your traditions and doctrine to yourself.
The foundation of my faith is the Word of God:
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. God’s promise is :
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Jesus gave us the Comforter:
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
The Holy Ghost doesn’t need your help doing his job!
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Do the job you are commissioned to do. . .
Mark 16:14-16
14 ¶ Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Gary: your video teachings are very clear and to the point. I did not take the time to watch them earlier, and find myself very glad something caused me to go back and watch them. PLEASE, may we have more. We need this straight forward encouragement and direction. THANK YOU! Blessings.
