I have a theory from reading the scriptures which may or may not be right:- I believe that the sun is a symbol of Jesus, the moon a symbol of the church which can shed no light of it's own, only reflect the light of the sun at night. They were created on the fourth day (four thousand years after the first Adam) and the moon (the church) reflects the sun until the Lord's day of rest( three thousand years after Jesus and the forming of the church) I have written all that I think regarding this in a post on my blog called 'Let us make man in our image', on 22/11/2011 if you are interested in reading it.
