1948 Year Old Prophecy
Did Simon Peter have a prophetic word for our world today?
What does the Apostle say to us through the word?
What does the Apostle say to us through the word?
Peter the Apostle |
This 1948 year old prophecy predicts:
- False teachers bringing heresy and destruction for their own financial gain.
- Lost and willful people following in their own desires.
- The righteous remnant to be tormented in their soul for the unrighteous and willful acts of those around them.
- Predicts that the sexually perverted with have no shame and flaunt their behavior.
- They will scoff at the supernatural.
- Men will become like animals: creatures of instinct to be slaughtered like cattle.
- People will look upon each other with unquenchable lust.
- They brag about themselves.
- The revile the supernatural realm
- They mock things they do not understand
- They entice the weak who are trying to escape back into sin.
That about sums up where we are right now! Most of the chapter is straight forward but right in the middle, 2 Peter 2:10-12, requires some in depth study. Let's look closely:
Bill Johnson and John Crowder - Grave Sucking False Teachers |
10 Such punishment is specially reserved for those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.
11 But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings.
12 These false teachers are like unthinking animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed. They scoff at things they do not understand, and like animals, they will be destroyed.
False Teacher |
Pastor Mike Pickard writes: Writing of the false teachers, he says that they live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings, meaning that they mock the spiritual realm, and instead act like unthinking animals following their sinful desires because they don’t have God’s Spirit in them.
Michael Heiser does an amazing job of explaining the elohim (angelic beings) and the Divine Council; they are given dominion over the Nations. Psalm 82 very eloquently shows the Lord judging the supernatural beings placed over the nations, for a mere mortal and false teacher to do so in ignorance is especially egregious and galling to the Lord.
In conclusion, the fiery fisherman whose reckless passion we look at with admiration and chagrin gives us a very clear picture of the world that we find ourselves in right now.
Peter was clear as if he were around today. Surely the Lord inspired him to write what it would be like today. Come back Lord Jesus and save us from this mess of a world.
