Another Sign In The Heavens 8/27: Jupiter And Venus In Closest Conjunction Since 1660

Today, August 27th, Jupiter and Venus (the 'king' and 'mother' planets, respectively) will be in conjunction on the handle of the Big Dipper, separated by only a fraction of a degree in the sky (4 arc minutes at minimum).   The planets will be so close in the sky that to many observers they will appear to be a single, very bright star.  Space.com makes the case that this may have been the same conjunction as the Star of Bethlehem as a number of astronomers and biblical scholars have been suggesting as of late.  Rick Larson, made famous by his Bethlehem Star documentary, details his likely discovery of the true Star of Bethlehem.  Today's conjunction is almost as close as the ones in 3 and 2 BC.

According to the second Space.com article (linked above), the last time Jupiter and Venus were this close together was November 14th, 1660, and the next time will be November 22nd, 2065.
