McConnell To Invoke "Nuclear Option" To Confirm Gorsuch
With Senate Democrats now filibustering Neil Gorsuch, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has scheduled a vote tomorrow (Thursday) to finally invoke what has been deemed the "nuclear option" - ending once-and-for-all the minority's ability to filibuster Supreme Court nominations. It appears that Gorsuch has at least 54 senators backing him, which means that he will likely be confirmed on Friday.
Many analysts were surprised by Senate Democrats use of the filibuster because it almost insured McConnell's current maneuver. The next vacancy could theoretically tip the balance against Roe v. Wade and Democrats will have wasted their filibuster-use on a candidate widely considered to be cordial and well qualified for the job.
