A Sudden Convergence of "Peace and Safety"?
Several of the greatest geopolitical hurdles in the world are suddenly facing resolution—at least as things appear at the moment. Could this sudden confluence of resolution be the 1 Thessalonians 5 mantra of "peace and safety" before sudden destruction?
1. An unexpected ceasefire between Turkish forces and the Kurds in northern Syria has put world leaders at ease in what had previously been a rapidly escalating situation involving not only Turkey and the P.K.K., but also Russia, the E.U., and the United States. The ceasefire is to persist for 120 hours, giving the Kurds time to evacuate from a narrow "safe zone" along the border that Turkey is carving out. Note two "days of Noah" themes here: first, Turkey is home to Mt. Ararat, the supposed location of the resting place of Noah's Ark (although some suggest the true Mt. Ararat is in Iran). Second, the calm before the storm is to last for 120 hours. Compare to God's warning in Genesis 6:3 that 120 years remained until the Flood:
2. A last minute Brexit deal was reached between Prime Minister Boris Johnson's negotiating team and the E.U. over the terms of an October 31st exit of the U.K. from the European Union ("Brexit"). The British Parliament will vote on the deal tomorrow.
3. Blue and White leader Benny Gantz is suddenly capitulating to the Israeli president's suggestion that he rotate the office of Prime Minister with Benjamin Netanyahu, allowing Netanyahu to serve first since he may soon be indicted. A final decision has not been made, but even an openness to the suggestion seems to be progress in the present impasse. Even bigger breaking news is that Jared Kushner will be traveling to Israel in just over a week to meet with both Netanyahu and Gantz, surely in regards to the imminent unveiling of the Deal of the Century.

October 26th and 27th mark the one year date of the convergence of the Vayera readings with the Rev 12 gap to indicate...strongs 398 / 399"I appear out of the unseen to carry up". Vayera means "and He appeared"...converging with strongs "I appear out of the unseen" and The Vayera readings included God's promise that the promised child would be born within one year...I don't know if that is a coincidence of if it was a plan, but it if it was an intentional plan by God then it may mean that the promise of rapture may be days away....Only God knows for sure...

wow rapture signs www.itwasaplan.com
Let's take that one step further...
Delete10/26/19 - The extra-galactic red-coloured comet 2I/Borisov will enter the inner solar system. A shadow of the red horse of the second seal yet to come? (Revelation 6:3-4)
10/27/19 (Tishri 29) - PM Netanyahu's 28-day mandate deadline strikes but may be extended 14-days longer for a total of 42-days to form a government)
10/27/19 = 767-days since the beginning of the Great Sign (R12S)
10/27/19 + 1,260-days = 2,026-days since Feast of Trumpets, 2017 (R12S)
10/27/19 + 1,260-days = Sunday, April 9, 2023 (Feast of First Fruits/Easter Sunday)
4/9/23 + 1,260-days = Erev Yom Kippur/Yom Kippur, 2026
4/9/23 + 1,290-days = Cheshvan 10 (The ark of Noah sealed by God)
4/9/23 + 1,335-days = Hanukkah I (Feast of Dedication)
I'm short on time at the moment but I will add some details in consideration of the two-witnesses.

ReplyDeleteMost of the reports regarding the "ceasefire" I've seen, are about how Turkey is already violating it.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Turkey, boy they moved into Syria fast and hard. Think how hard a push Turkey will come from the North once the hook gets set in the jaw of Erdogan, the chief prince of Meshec and Tubal. Things are happening extremely fast, wondering what's next after Trump's peace plan. All the more reason to keep looking up, he is coming and will soon snatch his bride.
ReplyDeleteTrump may be setting the "hooks" with his remarks to Erdogan!
DeleteIn how many years do you think the 7 year tribulation will start?
ReplyDeleteIt could realistically be more a matter of months than years, and that’s allowing for an unknown interval after the rapture. But on a longer scale, probably not more than a year or two. That’s what I feel in my gut, plus from material read here and elsewhere during studies.
DeleteIt can be said that the Tribulation is at least 3-1/2 years away.
DeleteHow?
The time of Jacob's Trouble or what is otherwise known as the Great Tribulation is the final half, "time, times and half a time", 42-months or 1,260-days of Daniel's 70th Week. We in Christendom tend to call the whole of the seven year period the Tribulation even through that is not necessarily correct.
Could it be that the Church will still remain here on earth during the first 3.5 years of that period of 7 years? A time when the antichrist will gain power, a false peace and security will exist and Christians suffering persecution by those who follow the antichrist and his false religion. And that all these judgements of Revelation (Seal, bowl and trumpet judgements) will occur during the final 3.5 years.
DeleteI don't think that it's possible personally. The reason being is that we have a picture of the rapture in Revelation 4:1, which obviously occurs before the judgments of Revelation 6 commence.
DeleteDARKNESS DESCENDING AND THE IMMINENT RETURN OF CHRIST: DEFENDING THE DOCTRINE OF THE PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE
https://endtimesdarknessdescending.wordpress.com/2018/01/14/the-imminent-return-of-christ-defending-the-doctrine-of-the-pre-tribulation-rapture/
Moin,
DeleteYour question is a valid if not frequently asked question. In this space most of us ascribe to a pre-tribulation interpretation of the RR while others do not. This is an opportunity for each of us to dive into the Word for one-on-One with the Holy Spirit. I agree with End Times above.
If to expand on you ET:DD -- (Revelation 4:4 ESV) introduces us to, "...twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads." They are present in heaven standing before the throne in advance of the Lamb opening the seven seals.
This is key to understanding timing of events. The elders are in heaven BEFORE the Lamb opens the seven seals. But who are the elders? Who are these that, "...cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
'Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and
power, for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and
were created.'" (Revelation 4:10-11 ESV)
Who are these that fall and worship the Lord our God in this way? Are they angels? I would say no. Skip down to (Revelation 5:11 ESV) and you will find the angels arrayed about the throne, the living creatures and the elders. "[M]yriads of myriads and thousands of thousands" of them.
Skip back to (Revelation 5:7 ESV) and we see the Lamb taking the scroll from, "the right hand of him who was seated on the throne." (Revelation 5:8 ESV) continues setting the stage for (Revelation 5:9 ESV) and a new song. (Revelation 5:10 ESV) declares,
10 "and you have made them [people] a
kingdom and priests to our God, and they
shall reign on the earth."
People. Ransomed people, and they have been made a "kingdom of priests." Kings and priests that, "shall reign on the earth."
To my understanding, conviction and belief, there are only three who are kings and priests. They are,
1. Jesus
2. Melchizedek
3. Christ's Church (us)
Jesus made the twenty-four elders, "a kingdom and priests" to God and, "they shall reign on the earth." Jesus, "ransomed *PEOPLE* [*my emphasis*] for God from every tribe and language and people and nation," and, "made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth."
We're talking about human beings. Men and women. Us. His body the Church.
The twenty-four elders are representative of the body of Christ. We are already present in heaven before the throne at the opening of the scroll not on earth waiting for the scroll to be opened. We are the ones holding, "golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." (Revelation 5:8 ESV)
The prayers of the Tribulation saints?
If you interpret these passages of Scripture in this way then, yes. Thus is one case introduced for our being taken before Daniel's 70th week -- before the seven years begins. But your belief must come from your time with the LORD. Don't take man's word for it, humbly ask and seek the One who lives forever, that sits upon the throne and gives freely His knowledge and wisdom. Then share the love you have been given.
I hope that helps.
Study well!

A Final Note,
DeleteMy comments above are not exhaustive and barely scratch the surface of your question. They are meant to offer timing to a specific event. The opening of the scroll. You will have to study outside of Revelation to get a greater sense of the coming of the son of perdition and the AoD.
I see the R12S as typified by Christ, announcing the coming RR and our being taken before Daniel's 70th week. We know that the restrainer will be removed and what that departure leads to. (2 Thessalonians 2:6-12 ESV) That *departure*, or "rebellion" as (2 Thessalonians 2:3 ESV) puts it, is what makes way for the advancement of the AC. YMMV on how to translate and understand the word translated as "rebellion." It can be taken in a couple of ways -- both of which appear to apply and both of which may be valid. "Rebellion" and "departure".
Again, more points for personal study. Keep your Bibles and Concordance handy!

Watching and praying.....
ReplyDeleteSadly as much as I want to get out of here I dont see the Rapture happening this year. As I write this (19th) adding 2520 days will be the Feast of Trumpets 2026. That is the next feast day on the calendar. It doesnt make sense that the Lord would return to fight armageddon after the F.O.T. and then go almost another year to fulfill the remaining feasts. In regard to the tribulation, the last half will be the worst of it but the first half wont be a picnic either. I hope im wrong. I look forward to meeting you all in the sky.
ReplyDeleteRegarding gaps and timing of end times events. It seems reasonable to assume that the final three Feasts of the Lord are going to herald major prophetic events. Feast of Trumpets could be the Rapture. Or, if the Rapture is on Pentacost (or is, in fact a signless event not on a feast day), then perhaps Feast of Trumpets is the second coming. In all of these, there's likely a gap of short duration before the Trib kicks off (I don't think that the Anti-Christ signing a treaty will be eternally celebrated, nor the start of God's anger towards unbelievers, so don't think this will happen on a Feast Day). So Yom Kippur is either Jesus second coming or the start of Judgement Day. Either scenario allows for unknown gaps of time since the Trib doesn't start at Rapture, that means we don't need to calculate exactly 7 prophetic years between Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur. And, again, there's an unknown gap between the second coming and the start of the millennium (aka Feast of Trumpets), which could honestly be years (although I think this is unlikely), if Judgement of AntiChrist and binding of Satan and restoration of Earth, etc takes any sort of time.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my point was that we can't ignore the possibility that the Rapture could be soon just because the days between Feasts aren't the right number.
I agree Sherrill777,
DeleteI think the Rapture is due along any day now, and it not tied to a Jewish feast day. It is the Rapture of the Church.. The Gentile Church was brought about to Bring Israel to Jealousy. Also, it says, "Unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved" So with the "Shortened Days" in mind, the Rapture can happen at any time, and only God knows how long a day will be shortened to, which will make Jesus 2nd coming to earth perfectly coincide with the remaining Jewish feast days.
So keep looking up, Our LORD is coming very soon.
If the rapture is on th F.O.T. we missed it this year. That day passed on Sept. 30. If the rapture happens on Pentecost and you add 2520 days on any year the return cannot be on the F.O.T. which would be many more days. The point im trying to get across is the Lord willnot return after the F.O.T.. He may return sometime before but not after.
ReplyDeleteMy dad has always thought the Rapture will happen during F.O.T but my mother in law thinks it will happen during Passover. She said because the spring feasts have been fulfilled for the Jews but not for the Church. The rapture will be our Passover. Whenever the Church does "disappear" though, I think it will be to keep us from the hour of trial but also serve as a sign to Israel. I am ready for Jesus to snatch us up!! And I know some people think it is not right to watch and wait but how can it be wrong to desire to be in the presence of your King and Savior? Anyways, I know I'm in good company here. Blessings to everyone!
ReplyDeleteAlso, this weekend was Awaken the Dawn, a weekend of 24 hour worship and prayer for revival. I just wanted to pass that on. Maybe we aren't actually at the tent revivals but God still hears our prayers! Praying for revival, laborers to be sent to the harvest, the lost to be saved, strongholds to be broken, hearts to be healed, and even so come Lord Jesus! Prepare our hearts for You! Amen.
ReplyDeletehttps://liliefield.blogspot.com
I ask this question out of sincere curiosity, since many of you have studied the matter much more than I have. But there seems to be a very large emphasis on feasts and holy days, so far as conjecture about the timing of the RR. Is this thinking based upon Scripture, or assumption and guess work? Seems to me that it robs from the principal of imminence.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, there are 7 major jewish feast days. Passover,Unleavend bread, first fruits, feast of weeks( Pentecost). It is not a coincidence that Jesus died close to passover, he was the perfect sacrifice. He fulfilled the first four feasts by his life, death, resurrection and ascencion. Its also no accident that the church age ( our time period) started on Pentecost. That leaves the remaining 3 feasts in the fall which have not been fulfilled. As I said before the next feast day is Trumpets. I personally dont think that the rapture can happen at any time and that there is a window in which its most likely. That window has closed for this year in my opinion and the next most likely time will be Pentecost next year until next fall. I believe its quite possible that the church age will end on the day it began. As I also said before I hope im wrong, im ready to go now and would like to avoid another cold winter.

ReplyDeleteI can't speak for everyone. But I understand imminency. I understand that Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour. But in the same scripture Jesus Himself also told us to watch Matt. 24:42. So how do we both watch and keep imminence in mind? And is Jesus returning imminent to everyone? Paul talks about 3 different groups of people in 1 Corinthians 10. The Jews, the Nations, and the Church. We know the Jews have been blinded for a time, until the fullness of the Gentiles. The Nations are blind because they don't know the Truth and spiritual things are spiritually discrerned. But there is one group that isn't blind. The Church. We know the truth. We are children of the day. I think we are supposed to understand the times. We are going to see things that others can't. And I believe it's so we can do something about it! Pray. Evangelize. Get as many people into the kingdom as possible. So I guess what I'm saying is that I believe there can be a sense of imminency mixed with awareness and watchfulness. And I think people conjecture about Feast days because those are appointed times for the Lord. And historically, things happen on Feast days. I'm sorry I don't have more scripture. I would have to look some up. But someone else here probably has a better answer. God bless.
ReplyDeleteThe context of the "no one knows the day or hour" passage is not referring to the rapture. 💜 Read it and rejoice!
DeleteAgree with Hillary
DeleteDitto. Jesus was not talking about His coming on the clouds.
DeleteNo one knows the day nor hour is reference to Jesus coming back with his church after the 7 yrs. post rapture...when we come back to rule and reign with Christ the 1000 year milenial reign.
ReplyDeleteI agree. And understand Jesus was talking about His actually second coming in Matthew 24. I should not have used that scripture as a point of reference. It was an error on my part. I do however have a lot of people in my life who scoff and say we aren't supposed to know anything about the rapture. I happen to believe that we can know, at least be aware of the general time frame and season. And that we should be awake and watching. What are we supposed to say to people like that? It's hard not to feel a little foolish.
ReplyDeleteThere are no specific signs as far as I know for the Rapture written in scripture. With that said we know whats coming shortly after. We know about an alliance between certain countries that will attack Israel. ( Russia, Turkey,Iran). Iran is backed into a corner. We know that there will be a third temple in Jerusalem at mid-point of the trib.. Preparations are in place for that all ready to go including a red heifer sacrifice. And now there is talk of a "peace plan" about to be unveiled. The big fly in the soup there is the recent election in Israel buggering things up and preventing the roll out of it.
ReplyDeleteSo basically when we see prophecy being fulfilled for Jesus' second coming, we can know that the Rapture will be soon. I think I knew that but needed to be reminded. It definitely seems like things are lining up. It's exciting! But sobering as well as we know so many don't know Jesus.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord is showing me there will be a great revival in the United States.
ReplyDeleteThis will be the greatest Christian revival in American history.
Christians who are listening to the Holy Spirit and obedient will be used by God in amazing and astonishing ways, in work places and areas of society you never expected. Situations will seem impossible in the natural but the Lord will bring forth His good and perfect will.
This will all happen before the rapture.
Maranatha!
Chantel, Blessings. This has been spoken, before, though not in a while with adamancy. There are several models afoot which could include this, although not always looking like a 50's movie tent-revival, amen, Maranatha!
DeleteI believe it and feel it too! I have been praying for revival for years! 💗🕊️
ReplyDeleteSorry but I dont see that happening, and as far as I know there is nothing scriptural that says it has to happen before anything. All I see are kids obsessed with "climate change" and a country one economic downturn away from putting a communist in the Whitehouse.
ReplyDeleteIf there are people out hungering for truth God will find them. We are all members of the body of Christ and he wont return for the Church until all parts of that body are accounted for, but a mass revival here in the states or anywhere else im very skeptical of.
A little free association for all the right-brained people out there...

I could be wrong, but I believe American society is moving in the opposite direction of revival. The rest of the world is marching to the same tune we are. I see demonic activity being paraded as art, and freedom of choice, and at the same time righteousness and virtue are condemned. Our society is saturated with seducing spirits.Consider the Burning Man Festival, satanic lines of clothes for children, coexist, gender neutrality, the Palmyra arch tour, abortion, pornography, me too movement, and the recent goat idol controversy in Arkansas. Oh, and I should also include the spiritual battle raging in our government. 2 Timothy-3 is a word for word definition of our society right now. It seems to me that given our level of lawlessness and arrogance as a nation, we will only experience massive revival as a result of hardship. I would be lying if I said I pray for revival because I haven't. I have been praying for my heart to be softened in this area if it is Gods will but most of all I have been praying that I will be deemed worthy to be taken up when my Lord and savior Jesus Christ comes for his Church. I pray, and believe, he is coming quickly. Until then, I continue to prepare my children (the best I can) to be in this world but not of it, drop seeds as I am able, and keep looking up.
ReplyDeleteI understand. The world is definitely evil and dark. Satan is the ruler of this world and it's pretty clear. But I'm hopeful. I know we need to make sure our own hearts are right and prepare our children. We need to encourage and love one another in the Church. The world is against us. But our King and Savior has already triumphed! I don't think revival is a prerequisite for the Lord's return. But my heart breaks for Him as I know He wants as many to come into the kingdom as possible. "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
ReplyDelete2 Peter 3:9
Revival certainly seems impossible. I agree. But anything is possible with God! I'm praying and hopeful.
Benjamin Netanyahu announces he can't form government, returns mandate to President Rivlin, on the same day he turns 70, a day after the feast of tabernacles. Means anything?
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it their gov't allows arabs to vote which I dont get. Of course they dont want a conservative hardliner like Netanyahu. What a mess.
ReplyDeleteA FEW THOUGHTS...
ReplyDeleteArabs do have the vote in Israel just as Christians, non-religious or Orthodox Jews have the vote. Israel, for my understanding, was founded as a nation for all of the above. Now that the PM has handed back the mandate to form a new government to President Rivlin will Benny Gantz get a chance? Another snap-election perhaps?
OF REVIVAL AND APOSTASY
I see a revival coming, absolutely. As a matter of fact I pray for it AND expect it. The Bible hints at the revival to come in the form of the tribulation saints. Quoting Darin above,
"...drop seeds as I am able, and keep looking up."
Christ calls us to,
19 "...[g]o therefore and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit[.]"
(Matthew 28:19 ESV)
That means that we are charged to plant the seeds that may bring forth fruit...even the new church. The increase that G-d brings from our work may very well be those raised up during a revival that occurs AFTER the RR and before the rise of the AC to the fullness of his power.
Yes, I can easily see a revival coming especially after the RR! That is a consequence of my day job and part of the job description.
Yes, if I understand Revelation correctly many will be saved from the work of the two witnesses and 144,000 jewish preachers. Millions of people will remember our talk about the Rapure after the event. For that reason witnessing is never in vain. Its too bad that they will have to lose their heads in martydom for their faith.
ReplyDeleteA PIN-POINT: ISRAELI GOVERNMENT
ReplyDeleteIsrael: Gantz to receive mandate to form gov't after Netanyahu concedes failure
Quoting, i24news,
"Rivlin said shortly thereafter [after PM Netanyahu returned the mandate] that he intends to pass the mandate on to Benny Gantz, the chairman of the centrist Blue & White faction, but he can take up to three days to hear out the parties elected to parliament before officially tasking him with doing so.
Gantz, too, will have 28 days to attempt to form a coalition, and is also facing tough odds, after Netanyahu's failure to do so in a second consecutive election.
'The time of political spin is over, now it’s the time to act. Blue & White is resolved to form a liberal unity government headed by Benny Gantz, as elected by the people a month ago,' the centrist party said in a statement."
So much going on at once in the world. May I suggest you keep your Bibles handy -- close at hand! Read them, prayerfully spending time with the LORD. May He be the breakfast you crave everyday -- your midday meal and your evenings repast. Put to practice what you learn through the Love you receive.

Here's another article tying together Biblical lands of prophecy found in (Ezekiel 38-39),
DeleteQuoting, CNN Analysis by Tim Lister,
"Under Erdogan, Turkey is no longer the obedient NATO ally guarding the alliance's southern flank against Russian expansionism. Partly in response to Europe's less than wholehearted embrace, Erdogan has imagined a new place for Turkey, one where it will pick and choose its allies and project power thousands of miles from its coast.
This expansionist role includes a garrison of troops in Qatar, a growing naval role in the Red Sea, support for Libya's government against the Saudi/UAE-backed forces of Khalifa Haftar and Turkey's largest overseas military base in Somalia."
Cush, Gomer, Magog, Meshech, Persia and Tubal all in one and connected to the former Ottoman Empire (Turkey).
Hours remain before the 120-hour cease-fire ends at 1900 UTC today (10/22/19) in Northern Syria and Turkey resumes operations against the Kurds. Somehow (Revelation 6:4 ESV) echoes to mind,
4 And out came another horse,

permitted to take peace from
the earth, so that people
should slay one another, and
he was given a great sword.

In an interview with CNBC on Monday, the high-ranking Trump administration official stressed that the US prefers 'peace to war... but in the event that kinetic action or military action is needed, you should know that President Trump is fully prepared to undertake that action.'"

When the US attacks its NATO partner Turkey, will this cause the NATO to fall apart and be replaced by the antichrist's army of 10 European nations?

Air defence systems designed to counter primary NATO and US stand-off weapons among others. Turkey a defence partner with NATO is armed with US equipment and has US-built nuclear weapons at their disposal,
DeleteQuoting, Wikipedia,
"Turkey is one of five NATO member states which are part of the nuclear sharing policy of the alliance, together with Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. A total of 90 B61 nuclear bombs are hosted at the Incirlik Air Base, 40 of which are allocated for use by the Turkish Air Force in case of a nuclear conflict, but their use requires the approval of NATO."
Really?!
Pastor Rich. I've been reading this website for two years now and I appreciate your perspective. I look forward to it. So please, with regard to the internet, get off the pulpit and get back in the trench. Please don't be offended by my comment, I am often wrong. Sometimes I'm not.
ReplyDeleteHi Darin,
DeleteI'm not sure what you mean by offended. I see nothing to be offended by. If anything, the Internet provides triggers for greater personal study -- study that points back to Jesus. Thus some of my postings including those above.
Glad to have you part of the community of Christ here at UNSEALED.ORG!
Good. I'm happy I didn't offend you. Thank the Lord
ReplyDeleteI have a little bible quiz for you folks. Traditional Christianity espouses certain things that the Word does'nt say. Here are 3 questions.
ReplyDelete1. How many sheep did Noah bring on the ark?
2. How many men were crucified with Jesus?
3. On what day was Jesus crucified and on what day was he raised from the dead?
Ha! Okay, without looking up any answers, here's my guesses:
Delete1) Seven sheep? I know it was a lot more than 2 if they were "clean" animals.
2) At least 2, but just because only 2 speak, doesn't mean they were the only ones there.
3) Resurrection is on Sunday (the Bible says that's why the early church gathered together that day), but crucifixion has been argued by many for different days. Most likely either Thursday or Wed.
How'd I do?
On the first question you nailed it, Noah needed the extra sheep for the sacrifices. Obviously only two sheep would not be enough.
ReplyDeleteOn the second, tradition teaches that two others were crucified with Jesus but a close examination of all four gospels will show that there were four men with him. It mentions two malefactors and two thieves. A malefactor is an evil doer. All thieves are evil doers but not all malefactors are thieves.
On question three tradition teaches that Jesus died on "Good friday" which I never understood, whats so good about it? Jesus told the pharisees that no sign would be given to them except the sign of Jonah. Like Jonah spent three days and three nights in the whales belly Jesus said he would be three days and three nights in the grave.
Jesus gave his life for us on the cross at the ninth hour (3:00pm) on a Wednesday the day before Passover and God his father raised him sometime between 3:00 and 6:00 pm the following Saturday. When Jesus said three days and three nights he meant 72 hrs. Theres no way you get that from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning.
I have heard that explained as the Jewish reckoning of time being different. Any part of a day counting as the full day. So Friday (1 day), Saturday/Sabbath (2nd day) and Sunday (3rd day).
DeleteThere is also a quote from Jesus saying 'Are there not 12 hours in a day?' If we measure from the time he was confirmed dead to Sunday pre-dawn, there is roughly 36 hours (12x3=36). He would know a different reckoning of time would exist in the future, or already existed (Could have been Roman/Greek reckoning) so He moved that disciple to write it down (He may have even been writing that Gospel to that particular audience.)
Paul mentions in his epistles that the first day of the week was a good day to set aside donations or something, so it seems clear they were meeting on Sundays. Also, John makes mention of 'The Lord's day' and some traditions say this is Sunday.
Ok, ive heard this before. The Jews lived by a 24 hr. day just as we do. The difference being their day starts at 6:00 pm instead of 12:00. Even if a partial day counts as a day you still cant ignore what Jesus said which is three days AND three nights. Lets see...Friday night ok...Saturday night, thats two.
DeleteOooops, what about night three?
According to tradition Jesus was up before night three early Sunday morning.
I've heard this discussion before. I was really struck by a comment about the time Jesus was in the grave. The length of a day on the surface of the Earth is different than the length of a day in the center of the Earth.
DeleteDoes arguing about it matter? We know God raised Him from the dead on the third day. The scripture will be true, however it was reckoned.
DeleteJack Kelley at Grace Through Faith has a series of Biblically based articles on this topic.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to get into a contemporary account with an overload of info, David Limbaugh's book on Defending Christ is a good read. He's Rush Limbaugh's brother, a lawyer, who wanted to prove or disprove Christian beliefs based on facts - the same way he'd present facts in court. It was interesting. Sort of like a modern take on C.S. Lewis' book - we have much more archaeological evidence available to us now than did Lewis.
Lee Strobel embarked on a similar project with all intent to debunk the Bible. He failed to debunk the Bible but succeeded in becoming a Christian along the way. I love it when that happens!
